From 10am onwards, it started to snow, at times the snow was really heavy. By 1pm, Aberystwyth became gridlocked with the heavy snowfall, the uni shut for the day meaning I had the aternoon of. Me and my mates had absolutely nothing to use to go sledging with, everywhere had sold out of sledges so the only idea we could come up with was a disused bath tub that was in my mates back yard and my body board. We trecked up to Pen Dinas North slope where there already a number of people sledging.
After a big hike, we finally got the bath tub to the top of the hill, I wasnt willing to be the guniea pig so 2 of my mates stepped forward and in they climbed. we had no idea what the bath tub would do, whether it would travel a few feet and stop, whether it would topple or whether it would travel all the way down the hill at speed and go out of control. We let go of them and of they went, all was going well until they started heading for 2 innocent sledgers who had stopped at the bottom and were just lying on the ground. We were shouting our heads of at them them to move but they paid no attention, the bath scraped one of the sledgers elbows before the 2 man crew bailed and the bath tub came to a stop, the innocent sledger was fine although probably shocked from it. We then decided that the slope had to be absolutely clear of people before we would set the bath of as it was pretty dangerous.
It was now my turn, I stepped in along with Lee and of we went, we followed the previous tracks meaning the snow would be more compact producing a faster run, I was in the front where I couldnt see a thing cos of the spray, We reached the bottom without toppling or any other incidents and came to a nice resting holt by the fence.
We carried on for a few more hours by which point we were all absolutely kanckered by lugging the bath tub up the hill. By the end of the day, the runs were so much faster as the snow was so compact, it was like an ice run. As the bath was traveling with more speed, we were travelling further which meant we had to do some spectacular bails at the bottom hoping that the bath woudnt land on top of you. We finally called it a day after a great days fun in the snow. Will be back tomorrow for more
